What is Acne?

Acne is a most common skin condition that occurs when your hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. It is a common skin disease that causes pimples. When you have just a few red spots, it means you have a mild form of acne. If germs get into the pores, the result can be in the form of swelling, redness, and pus. Generally, acnes form on the face, neck, back, chest, and shoulders. Anybody can get acne, but it is mostly common in teenagers and young adults. The condition is not serious, but it can be the reason for scars. Use of oil-based skin products or cosmetics can make acne worse. No one knows that what actually causes acne. Changes in the hormones, such as those during the teenage years and pregnancy, probably play a major role. There are many myths about what causes acne. Greasy foods and chocolate are often blamed, but there is little indication that foods have much effect on acne in most people. Another common myth is that dirty skin also causes acne; although, blackheads and pimples are not caused by dirt. Stress doesn’t cause acne, but stress can make it inferior. If you are having acne than you need to clean your skin gently, try not to touch your skin, avoid going in the sun. Acne can run in families. If one of your parents had severe form of acne, you are more likely to have it.

Generally women’s are very much prone to acne. Usually, not only teens get acne but a large number of women’s in the age of 30s, 40s, and 50s suffers from acne disorders.

Symptoms of Acne?

Acne develops mostly on the face, shoulders, chest, neck, or back and can range from minor to major. It lasts for a few months, many years, or come and goes in your entire life. Mild acne generally causes whiteheads and blackheads. At times, these may changes into an infection into the skin pore (pimple). Severe forms of acne can produce hundreds of pimples that cover the large area of skin. Cystic lesions are known as pimples that are large and deep. These lesions are very painful and mostly leave scars on your skin. Acne can lead to low confidence and sometimes depression. In this situation a person needs treatment along with the acne.

• Depression
• Papules

Causes of Acne?

Adolescence causes hormone levels to raise, particularly testosterone. These changes in hormones causes skin glands to start making extra oil (sebum). Oil releases from the pores to safeguard the skin and keeps it moist. Acne starts to begin when oil mixes with dead cells and clogs the pores of the skin. Bacteria can grow in this mixture. And if this mixture leaks into nearby tissues, it causes redness, swelling, and pus. A common name for these raised bumps is pimples. Certain medicines, such as lithium or corticosteroids, can be the cause of acne to develop. Other than this there are some other reasons that causes acne are different types of medicines, changes in the hormones, diet, stress, different types of cosmetics, dirty skin and greasy/oily foods etc.
